Save Money while Running Your AC

Temperatures are on the rise. And while that means swimming pools and summer barbecues with friends, it also means that your utility bills may be on the rise. To minimize the impact your air conditioning can have on your wallet, consider these tips from our HVAC pros at Allied Services, Inc.

1. Get a programmable thermostat.

If you are able to program your thermostat to adjust based on certain times of day or temperatures, then use that feature or purchase a thermostat that will do that. Automatically adjusting your home’s temperature can help you minimize AC use when you need it less (like when you’re away or sleeping).

2. Dress for the season.

Don’t run your AC so cool that you have to throw on a sweatshirt or cover up with a blanket. Instead, dress for summer, and make sure your air conditioning is set to a comfortable temperature (versus on full blast). We don’t want you to sweat, but we also don’t think you should be wearing sweats.

3. Make sure doors and windows are sealed.

When you’re paying for cold air, you don’t want it to escape and run your AC more than necessary. One way to keep cool air from escaping is to make sure your exterior doors and windows are properly sealed.

4. Replace old windows.

It’s no secret that older windows are less energy efficient. By upgrading, you should be able to see a difference in your utility bills.

5. Stay up to date on AC maintenance.

An HVAC system that is well-maintained will run more efficiently. If you haven’t had your seasonal air conditioning service appointment, we recommend that you schedule it today.
