Why is Indoor Air Quality Important?

You may have recently read a news article or some research conducted by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), talking about the importance of having good indoor-air quality. If you’ve never had your home’s air quality tested or HVAC system cleaned, you may be asking just what’s the big deal about the air quality of your home? Air quality research conducted by the EPA indicates that poor indoor-air quality can have both short-term and long-term health effects on a home’s occupants. Some people experience immediate effects, such as sneezing, itchy eyes, dizziness, and so on. These immediate effects are generally mild and can sometimes be linked to interactions with preexisting conditions or one’s age. Long-term effects, according to the EPA, could be as serious as respiratory disease, heart disease, or cancer. So what’s causing poor indoor-air quality? The answer isn’t clear-cut. Poor indoor-air quality could be the result of numerous causes, including (but not limited to) building materials, furnishing, cleaning products, dirty HVAC systems, or humidifiers. Lack of proper ventilation and cycling in new outdoor air can also amplify indoor contaminants. One way to combat poor air quality is to have your HVAC duct system routinely cleaned. At Allied Services, Inc., we offer air-duct cleaning to help rid your HVAC system of dust, allergens, bacteria, and other pollutants that can contribute to poor air quality. Additionally, we can help you maintain better air quality with products like whole-home dehumidifiers, whole-home air treatment systems, top-of-the-line filters, and more. If you’re concerned about your Dayton home’s air quality, contact Allied Services, Inc. at (937) 269-5059 to schedule an HVAC duct cleaning.
