How to Keep Your Sunroom Cool in the Summer

Sunrooms are great additions to many homes in central Ohio, giving homeowners a room to enjoy that is midway between indoors and outdoors. Most people use them as a second living space, dining room, or game room. Usually, they can be used comfortably for at least 3/4 of the year, maybe more if the right heating and cooling options are utilized. When Ohio summers hit their peak temperatures, though, it can be very tricky to keep a sunroom cool enough to enjoy. Your friends at Allied Solutions, Inc., recommend these options for cooling your sunroom this summer.

Expand HVAC Vents

This is one of the more expensive options, but it can be a far more effective way to heat or cool your sunroom. Expanding your HVAC vents into your sunroom could end up being worth the extra work. It connects your sunroom to the rest of your home’s HVAC system, which allows you to control it with your thermostat. But, you should be certain that your existing equipment is up to the task before going this route.

AC Window Unit

If your AC cannot handle the extra space, consider buying a window unit to cool the sunroom. It would be easy to install and remove, and would be less expensive than other options.

Ductless Unit

Ductless AC units have a higher upfront cost, but will save you money over time due to their higher energy efficiency. They also won’t obstruct any windows, and are much quieter than other options.

Portable AC Unit

If your sunroom can’t fit a window AC unit due to flimsy walls, you may be tempted to look into portable AC units that sit on the ground. However, these aren’t great at cooling, and are a huge strain on your energy usage.

If you are ready to make some changes to your existing cooling system to maintain a more comfortable temperature in your sunroom, contact Allied Services today at (937) 269-5059. If you’re in the Dayton, OH, area, our expert team can help you decide which cooling option will work best for your home.
