5 Tips for HVAC Troubleshooting

Being a homeowner means you have a lot of responsibility. You are in charge of making sure all of the systems that make your home comfortable remain in working order. One of the most important is your HVAC system. What happens if you suspect an issue? Here are five troubleshooting tips from the team at Allied Services, Inc.

Adjust Thermostat

The first thing to check if you suspect issues with your HVAC system is the thermostat. Make an adjustment, either warmer or cooler, and see if your system responds. You may need to change the batteries in your thermostat or get a new one altogether.

Power Source

If your system isn’t kicking on, it may be due to a lack of power. Some units have circuit breakers directly on them, and your home’s circuit box will have them as well. Double-check that the breakers haven’t been tripped.

Outdoor Unit

Another reason your system may not be running at its best is the possibility that the outdoor unit is blocked with debris. Make sure the vents are clean of leaves, grass, and any other blockage.

Air Filter

The simplest part to check in your HVAC system is the air filter. You should already be familiar with its location, but sometimes you forget to change them out. Check the filter and make sure it’s not clogging your system. It’s a good idea to change these filters every 30 to 60 days.

Ducts and Vents

Lastly, your ducts and vents need to be checked. As the air circulates through your home, dust and other particles can build up in your ducts, blocking the airflow. Clean your vents regularly, and have your ducts professionally cleaned every few years.

If you are unable to fix the problem yourself, you’ll need professional HVAC maintenance. Allied Services serves the Dayton area and can help with all of your heating and cooling needs. Contact us today at (937) 269-5059 to schedule your service.
